National Chocolate Milkshake Day
Make today and every day sweet with a Chocolate Milkshake.
If you’re looking for a sweet treat to brighten your day, a chocolate milkshake should be your sugary confection of choice! Sept. 12 is National Chocolate Milkshake Day, and we think it’s only appropriate that you celebrate accordingly! What’s not to love about this smooth, rich, refreshing drink?
Fun Facts about Chocolate Milkshakes
Chocolate milkshakes date back to 1885, when the first reference to one was made in a British newspaper. That chocolate milkshake of yore is not the same family friendly treat we know and love today though. It originally called for a shot of whiskey! This might explain how they became so popular in the first place! The whiskey was removed and has become a mainstay at ice cream shops, diners, and restaurants alike.
If you venture outside of Minnesota though and have a sudden craving for this chocolatey delight, be careful what you order. In parts of Canada and New England, milkshakes are known as a “frappe,” pronounced with a silent e. Making a round to Rhode Island? There you should order a “cabinet.” If you’re heading to the warmer climates of Latin America, you’ll find “batido” on the menu. No matter what you call it, chocolate milkshakes are universally loved!
Grab a straw and sip away this National Chocolate Milkshake Day. To make your own milkshake at home, combine two Cups of chocolate ice cream, two bars of dark chocolate candy (diced), and 1/2 Cup whipped cream in a blender.
