Get Out of a Rut!

The great thing about summer is you can start up the grill and leave the oven and stove off. But are you getting tired of burgers, chicken breasts and hot dogs? July is actually Anti-Boredom month, and we’re here to help you shake up your recipes and get out of a food rut!

First, lets start with those burgers. If you typically serve up ground beef – try ground turkey! It’s a great option for lean protein and its mild flavor lends itself to some serious creativity. Want something Southwestern? Mix your favorite salsa into the ground meat for some punch. Top it with Pepper Jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and avocado and you have a lovely burger!  Feeling like Italian? Add some pesto to the meal and top your burger with mozzarella or provolone cheese and roasted red peppers. Turkey burgers can even even take on an Asian flair by mixing in a garlic, ginger and soy sauce. Try using tamari, which is a darker, richer soy sauce for a great flavor. Sprinkle on some sesame seeds and top with Sriracha mayonaise and you have an incredible dish that is anything but boring. When you’re grilling turkey, make sure it’s 160 degrees without any pink before serving.

If you’re looking to have more veggies in your menu – try grilling up portobello mushrooms for your burger patty. A simple marinade of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar provide a great base for the mushroom. A sprinkle of  Montreal Steak Seasoning and you’ve created a meaty, healthy patty.  Top it with lettuce, fresh tomato and onion on a hearty bun and you have a great dinner. If you love cheese – some crumbled bleu cheese or feta would be a nice addition to this dinner. These mushrooms would also be a great side to any grilled meat.
